Teleworking can be a challenge for both employees and managers, who have the need to work from home for the first time.

Some members of the NexusGen team work exclusively on a "Home Office" or Telecommuting basis, so we decided to share some tips so that you or your employees can adapt to this new routine.

Organize your workplace

First of all, you need to find a space in your home that can serve as an office for the next few weeks. Not everyone has the privilege of having a separate space to work, which would be ideal.

If you don't have a separate space, find a place that's quieter. Then, try one or two places where you concentrate the most. There are people who work better in spaces with more natural light, others with background music. Experiment and see what suits you best.

If you have children, talk to them and your partner to try to define a routine and set some rules. For example, explain that if you have the headphones in your ears, you can't even be interrupted.

It is necessary to explain to the children that despite being at home, there will be times of the day when you will be working. Don't worry, they will understand and adapt.

Take off your pajamas

Although you don't need to prepare to go to work, it's important to take off your pajamas and put on other, even comfortable, clothes to start your workday.

If you keep wearing pajamas all day, you won't feel like you're working, and after a few days, you may lower your self-esteem. Keep the habits you had when you needed to leave the house: wake up at the same time, have breakfast and start your work.

Take breaks

At your workplace it is normal to take breaks, for coffee or lunch. At home you can maintain this routine too.

In addition to registering entry and exit, the NexusGen Time Portal and App They allow you to record the start and end of breaks, whether for coffee or lunch.

Take a short break of 5 to 10 minutes during the morning and afternoon, not forgetting the lunch break. Your brain will thank you for the pause and your productivity will not be reduced, but increased.

Organize your day

Create a to-do list and prepare work for the next day, this way it will be easier to start your day. Organize this list by priorities:

  1. Urgent and important;
  2. Important, but not urgent;
  3. Neither important nor urgent
  4. Urgent, but not important.

Do immediately what is urgent and important. Then schedule yourself to do what is important, but not urgent. Postpone what is not important or urgent. And finally, if necessary, delegate what is urgent, but not important. Whenever you complete one of your tasks, cross it off the list. According to experts, there is a positive psychological effect and pleasure in seeing things being done throughout the day.

Avoid distractions

As you are outside your "normal work environment", it is very easy to be distracted by your cell phone or computer notifications. The loneliness and anxiety that we may feel when being at home can also lead us to resort more to the cell phone.

Leave that message on Facebook or WhatsApp for when you're on your breaks. Virtually all mobile phones and computers have the option to "do not disturb". Use this option for when you're working. This way you won't be disturbed and your workflow and productivity won't be disturbed.

Be aware of emotions

Moments of uncertainty increase our stress and anxiety. In the face of so much news about this pandemic, it is necessary to be cautious with fake news.

Stay optimistic, and keep calling or exchanging messages with your co-workers, friends and family. After your work, do something you like, like reading a book, watching a movie, a series, (playing) sports, playing with the children. There are a thousand and one activities to do, we just have to be calm and adapt to the current reality.

Beware of expectations

It is worth mentioning that this is not a normal routine for many of the employees and managers. In addition to the situation of fear and anxiety caused by Covid-19, there is also the adaptation of working hours to the rest of the household routine. It is important to accept that what is possible to do at home now is not the same as what it would be in the workplace.

It will be essential for managers and employees to maintain communication and adjust work. In  Portal NexusGen Time , managers will be able to see the daily summary of each employee. Likewise, each employee can see the clock-in and clock-out times and breaks on a daily basis.
